Communion Prayer March 2, 2014

Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. Then Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, I[a] will make three dwellings[b] here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud a voice said, “This is my Son, the Beloved;[c] with him I am well pleased; listen to him!” When the disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Get up and do not be afraid.” And when they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus himself alone. As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, “Tell no one about the vision until after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead. (Matthew 17:1-9
Transfiguration by Alexandr Ivanov, 1824

Dear Lord,
We come on this Transfiguration Sunday
To share the bread and wine
In celebration and remembrance of you.
The Creator called you :" Beloved."
We call you "Savior."
Let this bread and wine remind us
Of your glory,
Of your love,
Of your sacrifice,
Of your words to Peter, James and John:
"Do not be afraid,"
Amen.

Dear Lord,  I know
That when you came down
From the Mount of Transfiguration
You entered into a world of suffering
And immediately healed a young man,
We cannot heal as you did,
But we can give our treasure and our time
To your service.
Bless what we lay before you,
And use it for the benefit of your kingdom.
In Jesus name I pray.
Amen.

Hearing and Speaking and Anger Control

James tells us to
"Be swift to hear,
Slow to speak,
Slow to wrath..."
Words to live by.
How often do we truly listen?
Listen, not only with our ears,
But with our hearts?
Do we hear the anguish in our brother's words?
Do we understand what underlies words of cheer?
We must think before we speak,
Understand before we answer,
Feel before we offer a solution,
Share our love if nothing else.
Remember that anger for our own benefit
Is wrong.
Remember we are to be in control.
Remember that wrath because another has been harmed
Is justified.
Remember we may be the only glimpse of our faith
That another sees.
Let me heed the words of James.
